Silla

Backstory

For years Cristian heroically maintained the running gag of saying “silla” every evening as he left the office, a tiresome bilingual play on the homophones “see ya” (goodbye) and “silla” (chair). So when I left the Barcelona for greener, colder pastures, it felt fitting that I should say goodbye with a chair.

Artist’s Notes

My aim was (and remains) always to not be too literal, but to give a hint, a cue, a gesture towards what I want the viewer to see and to leave the rest to their imagination, even if this means drawing three legs on a four-legged chair.
